Troop 8 kicked off the Scouting season with a weekend camping trip to Buck Hill Scout Reservation in Burrillville. This was a tent camping weekend and the weather was beautiful. As the boys arrived Friday night, they set up their tents and then started to prep quesadillas and Ramen Noodles for dinner. (Ramen Noodles is a Friday night staple and a boy scout favorite).

Coincidentally, we found our brother troops from Cranston were also at Buck Hill this weekend. A few of the adults and scouts had a chance to catch up our peers from Troop 6 and Troop 66.

On Saturday, the scouts, along with a few adults, hiked approximately 10 miles to the CT-MA-RI Tri-State Marker and back. Along the way, the boys leading the hike, took a wrong turn, but didn’t go too far off course before they realized we were heading in the wrong direction. The group took a break a the tri-state marker and had lunch before heading back to camp.

All was going well, the kids were getting along and keeping busy either cooking, cleaning the trailer, fishing, playing games, building a dock, until an bee hive underground was disturbed. The bees came out with a vengeance and a few boys were stung between 10-20 times while a few others were stung a couple of times. Glad to report, all recovered.

The rest of the night was uneventful. The boys were tired from the hike and went to their tents relatively early to chat with their tent mates and go to sleep. The troop packed up first thing Sunday morning and headed home.
